About this project
Clean Plates allows you to look up food safety inspection reports for the past several years in Philadelphia and Bucks County. Data for the project was obtained from the food safety offices in the city and county (posted within one day).
Routine inspections are conducted at regular intervals; repeat visits are common, depending on violations found. Any inspection represents only a snapshot of conditions that are constantly changing; a pattern over time may suggest more than one good or bad report. The city explains the basics of inspection reports here.
This project was coded and designed by Rob Kandel and reported by Inquirer staff writer Don Sapatkin, whose initial story was published Jan. 11, 2015. Temple assistant professor Meredith Broussard was an advisor. The project was overseen by Kelly O’Shea, Philly.com’s managing producer of health, and Karl Stark, the Inquirer’s assistant managing editor of business and health & science.
